Winterize Before It Freezes!

 In Sprinklers

There are many things that a homeowner must do in order to prepare their home for the winter. One thing that could be quite easy to overlook is the winterization of a sprinkler system. In fact, failing to winterize a sprinkler system before the first freeze is a fairly common problem. It may seem like a minor issue, but the results can be disastrous.

Winterizing a sprinkler system is not as easy as it may seem. There is a process that must be followed in order to shut the system down properly. Simply draining or releasing the water from the system is not enough. If even the smallest amount of water is left in the pipes, the pipes will very likely expand and crack, leading to a very wet and swampy lawn, a very high water bill, and possibly water damage in your home.

Another issue can occur if there is any residue water left in the backflow assembly, which can typically be located in or under your house. If the backflow freezes, the entire assembly can be damaged, this could lead to a pricey replacement.
